Sonopress produces EcoRecord for South Korean singer-songwriter Junggigo

Storage media manufacturer has its sights firmly set on the South Korean music market

Guetersloh, Germany – December 19, 2025 - Sonopress, an international manufacturer of storage media and subsidiary of Bertelsmann Marketing Services, is continuing to drive forward the global expansion of its sustainable vinyl records. For an exclusive listening session by renowned South Korean musician Junggigo at Moss Garden in Gangnam, Seoul, the company has now produced the jazz remake album Wonderland as a sustainable LP – the first EcoRecord for the South Korean market.

With Wonderland, Junggigo, a very well-known artist in South Korea, is dedicating himself to a jazz project for the second time. To ensure the highest musical quality, he worked with jazz pianist Oh Eun-hye, a formative figure in the Korean jazz scene, as arranger and bandleader. As a special feature, he presented a limited VIP edition of his new album as an EcoRecord, produced by Sonopress in Gütersloh, during the showcase in Seoul. The event met with great interest in the local music and sustainability scene.

“EcoRecord is already a huge success in Europe and the USA. We have now set foot in the extremely exciting music market in South Korea and hope that our sustainable LP will meet with similarly high interest in Asia,” explained Sonopress Managing Director Sven Deutschmann. The aim is to gradually expand the market in the region.

Cooperation with local partners
In its quest to conquer the Asian market, Sonopress is relying on cooperation with local partners, such as the South Korean company Plastic Ark. The brand stands for innovative upcycling concepts and produces everyday products such as mobile phone cases and home accessories made from 100 per cent recycled plastic. The characteristic marbled look, which is created when different coloured plastic waste is processed, makes each piece unique. Plastic Ark has been committed for years to giving waste plastics new value through design and functionality and has already collaborated with brands and artists to make sustainability more visible.

The collaboration between Sonopress and Plastic Ark, which is set to be expanded in the future, combines two complementary approaches to sustainability: the resource-saving production of storage media and the creative recycling of plastic waste. Together, the two companies want to provide new impetus for sustainable music products in Asia.
